Poetry | November 2004

LiLi

By Laura A. Lopez

she wears a plastic pink beaded necklace
to match red-hearted pink pajamas

her brassy four-year-old laughter
breaks the winter morning silence

and her white kitty slipper sways carelessly
above a yellow crayon on the floor

her tiny hands draw warmth
from a magical mug of hot cocoa

as she sings a silly rhyming song
on the merits of a marshmallow
