Writing Prompt: Shoveling Snow

By Karna Converse

In this month’s essay, Abbey Nash describes how the physical act of shoveling snow cleared a path through a frustrating “Writing Day” morning. She writes, “I find that I am energized by the effort, by the burning and the throbbing. The repetition of bending, scooping, straightening, and tossing numbs my mind. All I can hear is the music from my headphones and the scraping of the shovel against ice. It’s the monotony that clears my head. In my yard alone, shoveling snow, I am free.”

When have you felt consumed or trapped by the daily demands of your world? How do you free yourself so you have space, time, and energy to write?
