My Mother Drove a Race Car

By A.J. Huffman

Once. On a dare. In a Powder Puff Derby.
She stayed in the car, finished the race. Never
cried. This was all before I was born. Nobody
ever mentions what place she finished in, just that
she finished. My father said
after that he never doubted her again.
