Poetry | August 2014

Motherhood Koan

By Beth Suter

I was the gateless gate
my job to gentle you
without your knowing

I approached obliquely
with soft noises
and averted eyes

my wild foal
to fill your hollow
I spilled everything

who will be left
in this empty field
when you gallop away
