Excerpts from Ablation

By Danika Stegeman LeMay

Excerpts from Ablation [Covered]

Covered
in a blanket
covered in stars. I fall
asleep to the sound your heart makes.
I've sent
my love
into the future. The vessel's
a simple construction
of chambers and
muscle.

Excerpts from Ablation [When I]

When I
anoint you in
the headwaters of the
Mississippi, your eyes are deep
as a
glacial
lake. Watch the water drip and shine
from our fingers. I hope
there's water where
you live.
