Cervical

By Marda Messick

The womb's neck
effaces, gapes
for the crowning head

bloody wet spelunker girl
with a tiny cervix
and all her ova ever

pearl bones strung
with a floss of nerve
to hold upright
the matter of mind

(and a cord cut
between us)
