sink

By Luciana Francis

pressing against her belly
(years after the birth):
the cold sink,

perfectly aligned
along the scar (deep,
deep scar)

where every nerve has been left
indefinitely numb
(like the weather in November).

some part of her still lying
in that hospital bed,
(parched under stark lights),

waiting for his first cry,
waiting
(for her cue to howl).

Beautiful. Resonates deep inside me.
