Once Birds, Once Angels

By Jeanne Blum Lesinski

double golden shovel after Theodore Roethke and Rebecca Pelky

I remember the view of us from the camera’s eye, when I
knew only how much we loved each other and thought:
a time together, Mom sandwiched between us on the bench, all
woman to our sight─yet maybe child ascending─because the
lovely lack had led her to exclaim, point out rainbow birds
in our hair, the sun flares at the psychedelic limit that were
her intimation of a future, not long off, in which angels,
bones hallowed and filled with delight, were bright birds once.

Such a poignant reflection on time and generations — I simply love your imagery and your way of weaving in and out feelings of deep love and premissing. Thank you! I look forward to reading more of your poetry.

Thank you for your kind words. Human relationships are complex and constantly fascinating to me, so they are often the focus of my work.
