Family

By Lina Marino

Knotty hands
like roots,
you knock me
solid.

(Kindling; dream
fuel—I burn
the midnight
oil.)

Teach me everything:
firm sinews, yielding
yet anchored in earthly
light.

You grow trees,
pound hard naked
bridges for your children
to walk on,

knowing every route
leads home.
