Book Giveaway: The Cassoulet Saved Our Marriage

By Blog Editor

LM Editor-in-Chief Caroline Grant and LM contributor Lisa Catherine Harper are giving away two copies of their newly-released book, The Cassoulet Saved Our Marriage: True Tales of Food, Family, and How We Learn to Eat.

From the press release:

From the $6 peach to boxed macaroni and cheese, food is never just about what we eat. It is the fuel for our life stories.  The Cassoulet Saved Our Marriage: True Tales of Food, Family, and How We Learn to Eat is an anthology of original essays about how we learn (and relearn) to eat, and how pivotal food is beyond the table.

The 29 writers, well-known journalists, chefs, and parents articulate for us how food’s importance—in our culture, in our lives, and in our families—is reflected in a dish as simple as a pasta sauce, or as complex as a cassoulet.

The essays in this book get people to think about what they buy, how they cook, and why they come together at the table—the stories are entertaining and share fresh perspectives on food and family, but they also get people thinking about all the ways that food matters. The Cassoulet Saved Our Marriage: True Tales of Food, Family, and How We Learn to Eat reminds us, too, that there are plenty of practical, accessible ways to improve our family’s meals, one dish at time.

I intend to buy this for my sister-in-law an avid cook. We are vacationing together this summer and it will be a great read for both of us.

Would love to read this book. As a stay at home mother who was raised on spaghetti in front of the TV, I am always looking for ways to break the cycle and teach my children to love and respect food.

This book just keeps popping up everywhere—surely a sign it belongs on my food writing shelf. I love food—growing it, cooking it, eating it. Lately food is too often a what-can-I-get-on-the-table-quickly affair with a side of will-they-eat-it-today, but still sometimes I find time to share and savor food.

Family and food are two of my favorite things! Food and family together is just what I hope heaven is all about.

This book sounds great. My husband is a chef and I’m an avid considerer of food politics and ethics — between the two of us, I’m sure it would be well dog-eared.

This looks like a great collection abut two of my favorite things– food and life, not necessarily in that order.
