Last call for Father’s Day! Literary Mama seeks submissions for Father’s Day. “We seek writing that is about fathers from the child’s perspective; about the relationships between fathers and mothers and husbands and wives; about husbands as fathers; and by self-defined fathers about fathering and mothering (including lesbian or transexual parents who identify as fathers).” See our general submission guidelines and send your entry to lmnonfiction (at) literarymama (dot) com.

And now a new deadline on a call from last month. If you missed it in April, you still have time. The anthology is Black and White: Parenting on the Color Line. Editors Caroline Berz, Kym Ragusa, and Jessie Scanlon write that “we will explore the multiple and complex experiences of parenting children of African and European heritage. The collection will pay close attention to the ways in which the mixed race identities of children and parents alike are informed by gender, class, sexuality, language and citizenship. The writing will be humorous and lyrical, insightful and critical, and most of all personal, reflecting the joys and challenges of mixed-race parenting. Topics can include (but are not limited to): pregnancy and birth; adoption; LGBTQ families; interfaith and interracial families; divorce; single-parenting; grandparenting mixed children; racial implications of different parenting philosophies; specifics of parenting mixed girls and boys; gender-nonconforming children and families; special rights children and families; experiences at playgrounds and in mothers’/parents’ groups; schools and education; notions of beauty; bullying; policing; questions of multiculturalism and diversity; individual and family identities that push the boundaries of the black/white binary.” If you have a piece to submit, please send a description of your proposed essay (250-300 words), a writing sample, your short bio , and a list of previous publications by June 1, 2014. Essays which are ultimately selected for the anthology will be due by August 15th. Send your proposals to carolineberz (at) gmail (dot) com, kymragusa (at) earthlink (dot)net, and jessie (at) boingboing (dot) net.
