Writing Prompt: The Feel of Change

My bare feet touch the soft, cool carpet. I hear the birds through the open window in the hall, interrupted only by the dull hum of the AC. The scent of sunscreen lingers after evening baths.

Jackets hang unworn on the coat rack; socks sit untouched in the top drawer. Cheeks are stung red from their first burn and lush green lines the parkway. I unearth my flip-flops from the closet depths and (how is it? but I do) already miss the warmth of my winter boots and hunkering down in a home half-hidden by snowdrifts.

Emails arrive about school closing ceremonies and summer camp. We start to stumble over our descriptors (“He’s in Kinder–, almost in 1^st grade.”). We are marching headlong into the warm months ahead, that oppressive winter a mere memory. Everything around us is morphing, moving on.

Today, free write about change. Change of season, change of outfit, change of address, change of mood. What is evolving around you and how does it feel?
