We’re hiring a Blog Editor, Reviews Editor, and 2 Editorial Assistants!
We’re looking for four talented individuals to work independently yet maintain affiliation with a team who meets and completes projects via cyberspace. Read below for the details on these positions:
Blog Editor
Our Blog Editor, along with two other editors, creates and maintains a consistent schedule of blog posts that promote “mama-centric news you can use,” such as Calls for Submissions; guest posts for our After Page One series; a Writerly Roundup of articles related to craft and the writing life; as well as Announcements. The blog editors also work with the Social Media Editor to promote posts to Literary Mama friends and followers.
Qualifications and Expectations
- Experience in writing and formatting material for the web
- Thinks like a marketer and understands how a blog can be used to promote a product
- Proficient with group email conversations (we use Yahoo), cloud-sharing programs (we use Google Drive and Google Calendar), content management systems (we use WordPress).
- Experience with social media platforms (primarily Facebook and Twitter, but we also have a presence on Pinterest and Goodreads)
- Experience as a mother and blog writer a plus
- 1 to 5 hours a week.
Reviews Editor
Our Reviews Editor, along with another department editor, leads editorial discussions of books that warrant review, solicits writers for the pieces, and manages queries. As a confident and capable editor, with a keen interest and understanding of the genre, the reviews editor works with writers to revise pieces for approval by the senior editors.
Qualifications and Expectations
- Experienced in writing, editing, and critiquing as evidenced by publication credits, teaching career, or writing group participation
- Organized, detail- and deadline-oriented
- Knowledgeable, or a willingness to learn, about group email conversations (Yahoo), editing software (MS Word, Track Changes function), cloud-sharing programs (Google Drive), and content management systems (WordPress)
- Knowledgeable about Chicago Manual of Style
- 4 to 6 hours a week, depending on the number of submissions in the department.
Editorial Assistants (Reviews and Profiles and Literary Reflections)
The Editorial Assistant participates in editorial discussions about submissions and proofreads and performs final copyedits on the website, ensuring that our monthly publishing schedule and editorial standards are met.
Qualifications and Expectations
- Organized, detail- and deadline-oriented, with strong fact checking skills
- Proficient with Chicago Manual of Style
- Proficient with, or a willingness to learn about, content management systems (we use WordPress), group email conversations (we use Yahoo) and cloud-sharing programs (we use Google Drive)
- 4 to 6 hours a week, depending on the number of submissions in the department.

So this is a volunteer position, meaning there is no pay? Just checking…
Yes, these are unpaid positions, as in we cannot offer monetary compensation to our staff or to our writers.
