In the past few months, Literary Reflections editor Andrea Lani has had published three essays that explore the nexus of motherhood and nature: “The World in their Hands,” in which she comes to terms with the way her sons interact with the natural world, appeared in The Maine Review; “Pugnacious Beasts,” about snapping turtles and uncertainty was published in Zoomorphic; and “Monarch Summers,” about raising caterpillars, raising children, and (again) the uncertain future of both was reprinted in Nature Writing. She also had an essay about raising twins contrary to all the usual advice, called “Individuality, Mutuality, and a Game of Twister,” published in the collection Multiples Illuminated: Life with Twins and Triplets, the Toddler to Tween Years, and her piece about hiking the Colorado Trail with her three children, “Thru-Hiking en Famille,” appeared in TrailGroove Magazine.

Libby Maxey’s poems “In the Week After Easter” and “Anachronism” appeared in the latest issue of Kestrel; another poem was included in the anthology of postcard poetry 56 Days of August. Her poetry was also chosen for the Northampton Arts Council’s Visual Arts and Poetry Biennial, an exhibit featuring selected artists and writers from Western Massachusetts.

Laura Roberts’ humorous rant “I Take a Pill for This But I Don’t Think It’s Working,” appeared on the Erma Bombeck Humor Writer’s blog. She was also asked to be a preliminary judge in The Fourth River Folio Contest.

Taylor Harris’s essay “Talking to My Daughter About Charlottesville” appeared in Catapult and was one of the Top 5 Longreads of the Week. Her essay “Should I Have a Mastectomy for My Children’s Sake?” was published by New York magazine.

Colleen Kearney Rich had her story “Petty Cash” published in Matchbook and her story “Stage 2” published in Wigleaf. Her chapbook “Things You Won’t Tell Your Therapist: Stories” made the short list for the Santa Fe Writers Project 2017 Literary Awards.

Jamie Sumner is honored to join Literary Mama as Reviews Editor in conjunction with C-Y Welsch. Her essay, “The Reality of Three Under Three (Yes, I Have My Hands Full)” recently appeared in Scary Mommy and her philosophical take on motherhood, “How Occam’s Razor Revolutionized My Parenting” was featured in Parent.com as well as “The Hallelujah Moments,” a celebration of those small victories in parenting a child with special needs.

Christina Consolino’s short story, “Ushering Georgia,” was published in the 2017 edition of Flights: The literary journal of Sinclair Community College. She has also joined the board of the Antioch Writers’ Workshop at the University of Dayton.

Rudri Bhatt Patel’s essay, “Houston Gave Me Permission to Be Indian in Public,” appeared in SAVEUR. She also did a live reading of her essay, Seeking Certainty, for Bar Flies, Best of Phoenix Edition.
