100 Words of Writing Advice from Stephanie Buesinger, Photo and Blog Editor

“Read authors you enjoy and those that challenge you. Engage with a writing community, in person or virtually — classes, critique groups, local events, social media or coffee with a writer friend. This, more than anything, will help you hone your craft. Be adventurous with medium and form. If you usually write by longhand, compose a poem on your phone. Use a fountain pen or create a vision board. If something’s not working, set it aside and revisit it at a later time. Listen to your inner voice. Read aloud. Ask yourself, what is strong? Be brave—wait, you already are.”

-Stephanie Buesinger, Photo and Blog Editor

Stephanie writes fiction and children’s literature. After a career in finance and time spent raising her children, Stephanie decided to focus on her creative pursuits. Current projects include a middle grade novel and picture book, as well as numerous short stories. Stephanie enjoys art and photography and lives in Florida with her family. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), 12×12 Picture Book Challenge, and the Florida Writers Association.

I now do all my brainstorming in a real notebook with a real pen (purple). The tactile experience of handwriting also slows down my jumbled brain. No delete button.
