11 Holiday Gifts for Mama Writers & Readers

By Michelle Chalkey

gift and snowflakes on a white table

Mama writers, get out your wish list for Santa and add some new must-haves. If you’re looking to treat yourself this holiday season (we hope you are!), these gift ideas are great for helping you improve your craft, celebrating your writing and reading life, or simply make you feel good and cozy. If your family has no idea what to get a mom who writes, share this list of gifts that won’t disappoint.

1. Supper at Six Tee

Fans of the 2022 bestseller Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus will appreciate this tee that showcases protagonist-chemist Elizabeth’s signature signoff from her cooking show: “Children, set the table. Your mother needs a moment to herself.” Elizabeth is a prime example of a mother striving to advance her career and raise a (brilliant, independent) child.

Didn’t like Lessons in Chemistry? Check out the other cute literary clothes and accessories at Bookshelf Tees!

2. Writing Craft Books

Take your writing to the next level in 2023 with a new book on the craft of writing. What stage of writing are you in? Whether you need motivation to start something new, tactical advice on revision, or insider tips on the publishing process, you can bet there’s a book on it. Check out the Literary Mama team’s favorite books about writing.

3. Books on Motherhood

We’ve seen some incredible book releases this year on the topic of motherhood – The School for Good Mothers, I’ll Show Myself Out, and Lucy by the Sea, to name a few. Browse our favorites and find the one that resonates with you.

4. Writer’s Desk Candle

Candles play a big part in many writers’ routines. This “Writer’s Desk” candle has built-in encouragement, emanating bestselling vibes right into your writing space.

5. Published Author Coffee Mug

This wouldn’t be a holiday gift list for writers without a coffee mug on it. Envision your goal every morning as you drink your coffee with this affirmation mug. They say you manifest what you desire. Get in that author headspace now!

6. Writing Courses

One of the best gifts is investing in yourself and your craft. Where do you like to take writing courses? Gift yourself (or ask for a gift certificate for) a new workshop or writer’s membership in 2023. Here are a few great online options:

  • Master Class
  • Creative Live
  • Women on Writing WOW! Classes & Workshops
  • Creative Nonfiction
  • Writer’s Digest University
  • HrStry

7. Literary Journal Subscription

List your top five literary magazines you want to be published in next year. Let Santa gift you journal subscriptions so you can study and get to know those publications.

7. Passion Planners and Journals

Passion Planner journals and planners are gorgeous, spacious, and inviting to creators. Choose from beautiful designs and create your roadmap to success in 2023. The journals are sturdy enough to carry around wherever you go, so all of those good ideas get captured.

8. Transformable Vegan Leather Laptop Bag Set (Laptop Stand)

This laptop case transforms into a laptop stand, making traveling to writing conferences or coffee shops for uninterrupted writing time easy and stylish.

9. Too Many Pens

This one’s a trick: there’s no such thing as too many pens for writers, especially for you long-hand drafters! Ask for your favorite pens in bulk this season, and hopefully you won’t have to buy another pen in 2023. Here are a few writer-favorites:

  • Pilot G2
  • Vision Elite Rollerball
  • Jetstream RT Ballpoint

10. Lap Desk

Write from anywhere with a cute and comfy lap desk. This option from Best Buy has space for a mouse and your phone, but you can get really specific on what you want out of a lap desk. Do you need storage space? A spot for your coffee mug? Something flat and easy to store? Shop around for what fits your needs.

Happy Holidays, Mama Writers!

We hope Santa brings you everything on your wishlist. Most importantly, we hope you find some time to take care of you this holiday season.
