Jacinda Townsend

Jacinda Townsend is the author of Mother Country (Graywolf, 2022), winner of the 2022 Ernest Gaines Award for Literary Excellence, and Saint Monkey (Norton, 2014), winner of the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize and the James Fenimore Cooper Prize for historical fiction. Saint Monkey was also the 2015 Honor Book of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association. Jacinda lives in Ann Arbor, where she teaches in the MFA program at the University of Michigan. She received her B.A. from Harvard University and an M.F.A. from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
