Literary Mama

Opportunities

Literary Mama is an all-volunteer organization that brings mamas and mama supporters together through literature. Over the years, our staff has included mamas of all sorts, reaching across identities and experiences. We seek self-motivated, collegial collaborators who are comfortable communicating online and expanding the reach of our journal’s community.

If you’re interested in joining our team, contact us at literarymamainfo (at) literarymama (dot) com and include the role(s) you are interested in, a letter of interest, and a resume. Interviews are conducted remotely.

Please note: These are volunteer positions. All work is conducted remotely. Strong communication skills, in addition to the ability to understand that we are a staff of mamas doing the best we can do with the time we have, are required.

All Literary Mama staff are expected to:

  • Support Literary Mama’s mission by bringing forth new ideas, sharing examples/knowledge from past experiences, and recruiting new staff and writers
  • Participate in LM’s social media and promotional efforts
  • Participate in LM diversity and equity efforts

Fiction Editor

Fiction editors:

  • review and offer feedback on Fiction submissions
  • usher accepted submissions through the editorial process from submission to issue

Qualifications

  • Experience in writing, editing, and critiquing as evidenced by publication credits, teaching career, or writing group participation
  • Open-minded and able to find something positive about any piece of writing
  • Organized, detail- and deadline-oriented
  • Able to work independently yet maintain affiliation with a team that meets and completes projects remotely
  • Knowledgeable and/or willing to learn about online conversations, software, cloud-sharing programs, and content management systems (experience with Airtable, Discord, and WordPress a plus)
  • Knowledgeable about Chicago Manual of Style, or willingness to learn
  • Experience as a mother, inclusively defined

Time Commitment

  • 2 to 6 hours a week, depending on number of submissions
