A Perfect Pair

By Odarka Stockert

I see the two of you, one tall, one small,
silhouetted at the top of the street
by the light of the street lamp.

As you turn the corner, the headlights
of an approaching car light both your faces
like two momentary stars.

I think this is possibly our best day
the one I want to remember,
a moment in time, when
I know I have chosen well.

My dream incarnate,
you now stand
with her small hand in your palm
while I stand apart.
