Writing Prompt: Talking to Ourselves and Other Necessities of Adult Life

By Kathy Moran

In her essay “Talking to Ourselves and Other Necessities of Adult Life,” Maria Jerinic discusses the value and joy of writing personal essays, discovering the genre “provides the chance to process, to reflect and understand the significance of our work in many spheres as well as to celebrate our children’s accomplishments, to mourn their heartaches, and to think about what all this means for the world, because of course it does mean something.”

What are your favorite writing genres, and why do you find the most satisfaction in this type of writing? What genres have you least explored and what prevents or discourages you from doing so?
