Partial Eclipse

By Pamela Mosher

The first time we tried to conceive you,
the moon slid between the earth
and the sun. Two elements

overlapping
without conflict.

We wish this for you, our longed-for
second child: that you will know darkness
is momentary

and dangerous to fixate on
for too long.
