Calls for Submissions Round-Up: May

Starting this month, we have a new format for Calls for Submissions.  On the first Wednesday of each month, we’ll share a complete list of all current calls for submissions, sorted by deadline.  Throughout the month we will share new calls for submissions via Facebook and Twitter, so if you want to be in the loop, make sure to find us one place and/or the other!

G.R.I.T.S : Girls Raised In The South — An Anthology on Southern Queer Womyns’ Voices and Their Allies is accepting submissions of recipes, poetry, essays, short stories and images.  For details see the G.R.I.T.S. Facebook page. Deadline: June 1, 2013

Gazing Grain Press, an inclusive feminist press, seeks submissions (poetry and hybrid texts) for its annual chapbook contest.  Guidelines and details can be found here. Deadline: June 1, 2013

Pregnancy & Newborn is accepting submissions of essays about motherhood for its inaugural essay contest. Click here for additional guidelines and details. Deadline: June 1, 2013

Chicken Soup for the Soul is seeking submissions for a number of upcoming potential books. Topics include: Think Positive for Kids, The Dating Game, Miracles, and Multi-Tasking Moms. Click here for more information, deadlines and additional topics.

Hip Mama is seeking submissions for its “Handicapable”-themed issue.  Click here for details and guidelines. Deadline: July 1, 2013

Balaustine is a forthcoming anthology on the topic of “wanting family.”  Submission categories include poetry, short stories and essays about wanting children, being unable to have children, miscarriage and loss, infertility, adoption, and other ‘alternative’ families. Tracy Alverson is accepting submissions for a new anthology entitled “Homespun Mommas.”  She is looking for stories from radical mommas who have intentionally decided to live a more back-to-nature, simple life.  Whether you make everything from scratch, spin your own wool, or homeschool she wants to hear from you. Open to Interpretation is seeking submissions in any genre inspired by images chosen for their “Love + Lust” theme. To view the winning images and for submission details and guidelines, click here. Deadline: August 6, 2013

The Fourth River announces a 2014 themed issue on Women and Nature.  They are looking for poetry and creative nonfiction (especially prose poetry and lyric essays), written by women and inspired by the natural world or addressing environmental concerns.
