A Book on Every Bed

By Blog Editor

Imagine… One million children across America waking up on Christmas morning (or your favorite winter holiday) to find a gift-wrapped book on their bed!

A Book on Every Bed is an initiative to spread the joy of reading and the love of literacy in the winter holiday season. The way it works is simple- Buy a favorite book (new or used!) for your child or children and wrap it. After children have fallen asleep on Christmas Eve or any winter holiday, place the gift-wrapped book at the bottom of their bed. They will wake to find and open their first present, and maybe even stay in bed longer to read it!

Amy Dickinson of “Ask Amy,” USA Weekend, and the Ithaca, NY-based non-profit organization the Family Reading Partnership have teamed up again to encourage families across the United States to start this special holiday book tradition.

Download a bookmark, donate so low-income families will have holiday books, and find out how to start the tradition in your community at Family Reading Partnership Book on Every Bed website.
