We’re looking for three talented individuals—a Poetry Editorial Assistant, Profiles Editor, and Reviews Editor—to work independently yet maintain affiliation with a team who meets and completes projects via cyberspace. Read below for the details on these positions:
Poetry Editorial Assistant
The Editorial Assistant participates in discussions with the Poetry Editor about submissions, and proofreads and performs final copyedits on the website, ensuring that our monthly publishing schedule and editorial standards are met.
Qualifications and Expectations
- Organized, detail- and deadline-oriented, with strong fact checking skills
- Keen interest in and experience with the genre
- Proficient with Chicago Manual of Style
- Proficient with, or a willingness to learn about, content management systems (we use WordPress), group email conversations (we use Yahoo) and cloud-sharing programs (we use Google Drive)
- 4 to 6 hours a week, depending on the number of submissions in the department.
Profiles Editor
Our Profiles Editor, along with another department editor, leads editorial discussions about writers or artists who should be featured on our pages, solicits contributors for the pieces, and manages queries. As a confident and capable editor, with a keen interest and understanding of the genre, the profiles editor works with writers to revise pieces for approval by the senior editors.
Qualifications and Expectations
- Experienced in writing, editing, and critiquing as evidenced by publication credits, teaching career, or writing group participation
- Organized, detail- and deadline-oriented
- Knowledgeable, or a willingness to learn, about group email conversations (Yahoo), editing software (MS Word, Track Changes function), cloud-sharing programs (Google Drive), and content management systems (WordPress)
- Knowledgeable about Chicago Manual of Style
- 4 to 6 hours a week, depending on the number of submissions in the department.
Reviews Editor
Our Reviews Editor, along with another department editor, leads editorial discussions of books that warrant review, solicits contributors for the pieces, and manages queries. As a confident and capable editor, with a keen interest and understanding of the genre, the reviews editor works with writers to revise pieces for approval by the senior editors.
