Community News: Urban Education Special Issue

Literary Mama is pleased to share the following special call for submissions from M Billye Sankofa Waters and Gholdy Muhammad-Jackson. From their announcement:

“🚨 YO! CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS 🚨

We are working on a special issue for Urban Education titled “The First Authors: Honoring Knowledge Productions of and with Black Mothers.”

We’re inviting folx to share manuscripts that are co-authored with our mothers/othermothers; this is how we expand the canon and put “respeck” on our mama’s names.

The guiding questions for the manuscripts center what our mothers have taught us and how these teachings can inform urban education. We’re looking to have an interdisciplinary roster of folx with varied approaches that may include ethnography, poetry, pedagogical reflections and of course, conventional academic modes.

All we need now is a 200-250 word abstract – due December 20, 2022. (If you’re invited to contribute, the full draft will be due 2/20/23.) This Google Form link includes the specifics of the call and quick information fields for you to fill out for initial consideration.”

Wish I had seen before!
I would’ve written something with my students who view me as Nana academic mother
