Literary Mamas to Follow

We love seeing what former Literary Mama contributors are up to in the world. “Literary Mamas to Follow” is a new blog series highlighting the work of mama writers and how Literary Mama has played a part in their creative journeys.
Windy Lynn Harris, whose humorous fiction piece, “Dear Quiche, I’d Like an Apology,” was published in Literary Mama in December 2015, recommended Literary Mama in her newsletter as a terrific submission opportunity. Thank you Windy! Windy wrote Writing & Selling Short Stories & Personal Essays: The Essential Guide to Getting Your Work Published, a great book about writing short form pieces for publication. You can also read more about Windy in Where Are They Now? from the blog last June.
The November 18, 2022 episode of #AmWriting podcast, featured Patrice Gopo, who gave big props to Literary Mama as one of the first places she submitted. Thank you Patrice! Patrice’s stunning Creative Nonfiction essay, “Braided Love,” was published in Literary Mama in January 2013.
Jacinda Townsend, who published “Unbricking,” a Literary Reflection, with Literary Mama in August 2009, just won the Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence for her 2021 novel, Mother Country. Congratulations Jacinda!
Poet Molly Spencer shared her love for Literary Mama as the place where she received her “first ever journal pub.” Her poem, Lesson on Carrying, published in Literary Mama in December 2010. Thank you Molly!
Has Literary Mama been an important part of your publishing journey? We’d love to lift up your story!
To help us celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we’re inviting all former contributors to submit a blog post sharing what being a part of Literary Mama has meant for them, what they hope for the future of the magazine, and how Literary Mama has shaped their writing, their mothering, and their lives. For an example, see what Kate Haas had to say in celebration of Literary Mama’s 10th anniversary.
