The AWP Diaries: Wednesday, March 8

Welcome to The AWP Diaries, a glance into Publisher Cindy DiTiberio’s first AWP conference experience. Each day this week, we’ll share a bit about what a single day looked like when she was at AWP last week.
2:30pm Arrive at SEATAC and take an Uber to the hotel to check in.
3:00pm Arrive at the Grand Hyatt and check into my room.
3:15pm Head over to the conference center to see the Literary Mama table and meet up with Managing Editor Jenny Bartoy who I have known for over a year but never met in person.
3:20pm Wait in line for my registration badge. Though the line is hella long, it moves quickly, and Jenny and I are enjoying catching up anyway.
4:00pm We head out to find a bar nearby before she takes the train back to Tacoma, but it is 4 pm and several bars don’t open until 4:30.
4:15pm Finally find the Oliver’s Lounge at the Hotel Mayflower. Sit down, order Paper Planes and a burger, and deep dive into the kind of writing we do, which gets personal very fast.
5:30pm Jenny heads out to catch her train home to kid responsibilities. I head back to the hotel.
6:00pm Try and decide whether I want to motivate myself to head to any of the meetups and readings tonight but ultimately decide to enjoy the huge hotel bathtub and some episodes of Friends. A hotel room to herself is a luxury a mama can’t afford to waste.
Come back tomorrow to read more of Cindy’s experience at AWP!
