“Mama And … Expectations” May 2025 Prompt

When I became a mother in 2004, I had grand unrealistic expectations for myself and the new journey I was on. I completely bought into the notion that I would love every second of motherhood and that it would fulfill me in all possible ways. Even though I had watched my own wonderful mother experience frustration, anger, sadness and other complex emotions while mothering me and my brother, I, like so many newbie parents, thought, “It will be different for me.”
Of course my motherhood journey has been different than my mother’s, but like her I have experienced the joy and delight as well as the annoyances and resentments.
This month, we’re inviting writers to explore motherhood and expectations, whatever those may have been in the past and whatever expectations you continue to have as you look to the future.
