What We’re Reading–March 2026

Literary Mama staff have been keeping busy whittling down their TBR stacks and are sharing the details with you!
Literary Reflections editor Blair Lipsitz has been reading The Correspondent by Virginia Evans when she can squeeze in a chapter or two between mom duties. It is an epistolary novel that she has found inspiring. “I am enjoying [protagonist] Sybil’s voice, her quirkiness, her grumpy personality. I wish I could receive one of Sybil’s letters, and I can’t help wondering what she’d find wrong with my writing. Or me in general. But it would make me laugh, either way,” she says.
Newsletter editor Marsea Nelson’s goal is to read 30 minutes a day and be a role model for her daughter. She has been tearing through What Kind of Paradise by Janelle Brown and says, “This book is such a master class on how to write a propulsive book. I’ve been staying up way too late reading, but I genuinely feel like I have no choice because I can’t not know what happens next.”
Libby Maxey, who serves as both Poetry and senior editor at Literary Mama is, not surprisingly, reading a poetry chapbook that she had originally read about 18 months ago and then picked up again around the holidays. She says Fixing the Halo by Lindsay Adkins is “a spirited and clever collection that takes up familiar stories, many of them biblical, as women’s stories. Some you might anticipate (Postpartum Mary), but then there’s the story of Jonah told by the female whale charged with swallowing him (Whale as Woman). I appreciate both the charming weirdness of this book and its feminist fierceness.”
We would love to hear the titles that you are reading and enjoying now!

I finished The Correspondent a few weeks ago, and loved it! Thanks for the other recommendations. They sound great.
Currently, I’m reading David Copperfield and Faust (in an effort to intersperse the old writings with the new in my book stack) and I’m casually listening to The New Menopause.
I’m looking for my next modern novel to add to the stack as well… something juicy and beautiful.
I’ve just started Good Dirt by Charmaine Wilkerson. Highly recommend this novel for readers who parent since it’s propulsive and its short chapters make it easy to pick up and put down. Beautifully written and a gripping storyline. This might be good for you @saraelizabethdutilly . I also love that you’re reading David Copperfield and Faust at the same time!
My research reading has been titles like Adventures in Human Being: A Grand Tour from the Cranium to the Calcaneum by Gavin Francis and The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien for different reasons.
Next read for me will be Kin by Tayari Jones as I’m excited to listen to her speak of her novel about mothers and daughters, friendship and sisters.
The Correspondent is such a beautiful read!
I too really enjoyed The Correspondent. I hear a film is in the works. Jane Fonda will play Sybil. Also, I’ve heard that the audio book is terrific.
