Get Posted/Get Published: September 2026

Berrr! Here we are. We’ve made it through to the ninth month of 2026, even though you should know we have been misled. If, like me, you hadn’t made the connection, you will love hearing that September is in fact the seventh month of the year. I’ve been challenging myself to read in French this month, so maybe that’s why it’s suddenly registered that sept means seven and, of course, derives from the Latin word septem. September was the seventh month of the year in the ancient Roman calendar; January and February didn’t count, but that’s a story for another day.
Today’s tale is about septem, meaning seven. Mothers who hear the near-homophone septum, and who are led to think of their seven-year-old’s nostrils this September must not despair. They will be unblocked and free of flu by January. Instead, let us celebrate our arrival in the months that many label the –bers, the ones that start with our children returning to school, are closely followed by cold and flu season, and lead into the months that allow us to enjoy childhood traditions with our kids again.
If you’re a literary mama who hasn’t moved her mind out of August yet, let this be my burst of encouragement for you to get something posted or published this seventh month of 2026.
