Cynthia Miller Coffel

Cynthia Miller Coffel is the author of Thinking themselves free: Research on the literacy of teen mothers and the ninth edition of A handbook of children’s literature. Her essay, Letters to David, won The Missouri Review Jeffrey E. Smith Editors’ Prize in 2006; her personal essays have been listed twice among the notable essays of the year in the Best American Essay series. New work is forthcoming in Creative Nonfiction’s In Fact Books anthology, What I didn’t know: True stories of becoming a teacher.
